Granite Countertop Myths and Facts

A granite countertop beautifies any kitchen

Granite is a highly sought after countertop material. The maintenance is minimal, the aesthetics are amazing, and the quality is without question. However, there are a lot of granite countertop myths on the Internet. The Internet is so convenient, and it takes no time to find the information that you need. However, you can’t believe everything that you read on the Internet. We’re here to debunk some myths about granite countertops and provide you with facts over fiction. Keep reading to learn more!

Myth 1: Granite isn’t Affordable

Materials such as marble and onyx, for example, are high-end countertop materials that can be more on the expensive side. However, granite is more on the affordable side and ideal for high-traffic areas and everyday usage. Overall, you should keep in mind that one of the most significant factors that determine how much countertop installation will be is the square footage.

Myth # 2: You Can’t Repair a Granite Countertop Surface

Granite is durable without a doubt. However, you can indeed damage it. The good thing is that all hope is not lost, and you can repair a granite countertop with ease. If you chip or crack your granite countertop, you can refinish it so that it looks new again. You can blend colored epoxy into the natural stone so that it’s easy to repair dents and scratches.

Myth # 3: Granite Harbors Bacteria

Granite is so safe that it has applications in both the food and medical industries. The Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention (CDC) has no records of this material harboring bacteria or people becoming sick from granite. As long as you regularly clean your countertop, there should be no issues.

Myth # 4: Maintenance isn’t Minimal

If you’re a homeowner that doesn’t want to make their lives harder, then owning a granite countertop can help you out. Not only will it add visual appeal to your home, but all you need to do is use warm and soapy water to clean the surface. Also, make sure to seal it annually. To prevent damage, make sure never to leave hot objects on the countertop. If so, use a mat or potholder as a protective barrier.
