Edge Treatments: Which One is Right For You?

Here is how you can determine which edge treatment is right for you.

Oh, countertops and their many considerations. Once you pick a material and color, you may think that countertop design ends there. However, choosing between edge treatments is another countertop consideration. Last week, we honed in on the wonders of waterfall edge treatments, and now we’re going to take a close look at other types of edge treatments. Here is how you can determine which edge treatment is right for you.

Eased Edges

We offer eased edges at no additional charge. Eased edges tend to be the most popular choice and are ideal if you want a simple, square, and crisp look that isn’t too sharp. Flat, polished edges look excellent with shaker-style cabinets. These cabinets have recessed panel doors and are simple with minimal adornments, enhancing a classic home. The sides and corners of eased edges have a slight smoothness that protects the countertop from chipping and scratching.

1/2 and Full Bullnose Edges

Just like eased edges, we offer these types of edge treatments at no additional cost! Bullnose edges are known for their roundness. For homeowners that have small children, this edge style is ideal. Because bullnose edges are less sharp than their countertops, it makes them a safer option. Your children (and your guests) would be less likely to bump their bodies against bullnose edges.

So, what’s the difference between a 1/2 and a full bullnose edge? Because bullnose edges make a countertop look slimmer, some homeowners prefer the countertop to only round out at the top. In that case, a 1/2 bullnose edge would be the better option.

Beveled Edges

We consider beveled edges an upgrade. Beveled edges have an angle that less than 90 degrees. Often, beveled edges are 45 degrees. We offer a 1/4″ bevel, 1/2″ bevel, and a Hollywood bevel that you should only use for thresholds. This choice is ideal if you want a high decorative countertop.

Ogee Edges

Ogee edges work well in traditional homes. Ogee edges have the shape of an “S.” The curved nature of ogee edges is intricate. With this style, cleanliness is significant. It takes a little work to make sure that dust and crumbs don’t form in the grooves. Regardless of the countertop type, upkeep matters. For any homeowner that wants a more elegant home, this is an ideal enhancement.
