Benefits of Quartzite Countertops

Quartzite Countertops

Quartzite countertops combine high quality and durability into a great-looking package!

From granite to cement and every other material between, your options for your kitchen countertops should not only complement the overall design of your kitchen but help you achieve your daily tasks. Most homeowners want countertops that are beautiful and durable; long-lasting but also low maintenance. If you’re looking for a material that checks all those boxes, consider installing quartzite countertops in your kitchen for your next remodel or renovation. Check out some of the benefits you’ll experience from quartzite.

Durability

It’s true that granite is the king of the countertop kingdom. However, quartzite boasts the unique quality of being more durable than granite. While they are both natural stones, both formed from heat and pressure, and both are hard and sturdy, quartzite edges granite out in the strength category. The Mohs Hardness Scales ranks quartzite at 7, making it one of the highest scored materials on the list. Quartzite is also a much denser material than granite, which is also more porous.

Aesthetics

If you’re someone that enjoys the look of marble, many white varieties of quartzite can help you achieve a similar look. White quartzite looks like marble, but it won’t etch or chip like marble. Beware of companies that claim to sell “soft quartzite” as there is no such thing — that product is likely just marble. One way to tell the difference between quartzite and marble is with a hardness test. Use a glass tile to rub against the edge of the slab. Quartzite will scratch the glass while marble will not. The varieties of white Dallas and white Macaubas resemble marble the most because of the gray veins that run the length of the stone.

Cost

For all its benefits, quartzite is an inexpensive option for your kitchen countertops. While it is more expensive than laminate and other non-stone materials, it’s less expensive than marble. The pricing falls within the same range as granite and quartz. The rarer the look and color, the more expensive the quartzite will be. Thicker slabs are also most expensive as well as those with ornate designs and special fabrication needs. As demand for this product continues to increase it has become much more readily available, which drives the pricing lower.
