The Benefits of Quartzite Countertops

Quartzite Countertops

Discover the benefits of quartzite countertops for your kitchen.

One of the most consistently debated aspects of home improvement is countertop material. From trends, to strength, to affordability, to aesthetic qualities, there are plenty of things to consider. After all, picking out a countertop material boils down to a lot of comparison shopping. So when it comes to one of the most currently popular countertop materials, quartzite, you’ll need to know how it stacks up against other popular countertop materials, such as granite, marble, or quartz. Luckily, we have all the information you need about quartzite countertops in order to help you make an informed comparison. Here are some of the benefits of choosing quartzite countertops for your home.

Durability

Even when quartzite may look like a marble countertop, it can be one of the most affordable, durable options. This material won’t scratch as easily as marble, which can chip and etch very easily. Quartzite is not nearly as soft, making it a harder, and more durable, material for countertops. In fact, quartzite countertops are more durable than granite ones, even though both are quite high on the Mohs scale for hardness. But quartzite is denser, and slightly less porous than granite, meaning it may need only minimal sealing to ensure your countertop is safe for working with food.

Natural

While quartz countertops are a (strong) man-made material, quartzite countertops represent a naturally occurring material. This metamorphic stone is therefore much more heat- and scratch-resistant than the man-made quartz, allowing it to look better for longer. This also means that it will go longer without needing maintenance and generally be more durable.

Inexpensive

Quartzite countertops may be more expensive than wooden or laminate countertops, but they are cheaper than most marble you will find. Quartzite is actually much closer in price to granite and quartz countertops, which are very affordable options. It is really only quartzite that resembles marble that can go for fairly high prices, due to the “exotic” aesthetic of the material.

Low Maintenance

As far as natural countertop materials go, quartzite is one of the lowest maintenance options out there. Since the material is porous, and the porosity varies across the different types of quartzite materials, sealing is really the only regular maintenance you should undergo to ensure your countertops stay beautiful for a very long time. An annual sealing should get the job done. The rest of the time, just be sure to clean up spills with a rag to prevent stains and wearing down the finish.

Beautiful Color Choices

Since this material does occur naturally, there are generally fewer options for the coloring of the stone. However, quartzite comes in beautiful hues of red and blue, which can add the perfect pop of color to the countertops in any kitchen or bathroom.
