Pros and Cons That Come With Various Kitchen Countertop Materials

Today, we’ll be looking at the pros and cons that come with different kitchen countertop materials.

When you’re getting a new kitchen countertop for your home, one of the main considerations to make is deciding on the material for this new countertop. There are many countertop materials from which to choose, and they come with their benefits and drawbacks. Today, we’ll be looking at the pros and cons that come with different kitchen countertop materials.

Marble

Among the different kitchen countertop materials you could consider, marble offers some of the most timeless appeal. They have unique patterns that make each countertop unique from the next, giving your kitchen greater individuality. These countertops also come with heat resistance, which is perfect for a kitchen since you’ll often work with hot foods.

On the flipside, there is the chore of having to maintain them. You’ll have to reseal marble countertops 1-4 times per year, depending on how much you use them. There’s also a higher upfront cost when compared to other countertop materials.

Granite

Granite is another of the highly popular kitchen countertop materials. This material is more durable, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. All the while, you get plenty of heat and scratch resistance.

You do have to watch out, however, because granite is a material that’s susceptible to being chipped or cracked. It also needs resealing every 3-5 years to keep it stain-resistant.

Soapstone

If you’re looking for low-maintenance countertop materials, soapstone is a great option for you. These countertops can handle heat, just like the other countertops we’ve mentioned, plus you don’t have to worry about sealing them to get stain resistance.

Where soapstone countertops fall short is in the style department. There are limited styles and colors that are available to you. They can also scratch and dent more easily than other countertop materials, so you need to be more careful around them.
