Kitchen Countertop Cleaning Mistakes to Avoid

Kitchen Countertop Cleaning Mistakes to Avoid

Here are cleaning methods you’ll want to avoid using on your kitchen countertop.

Your kitchen countertop is likely a frequently-used area of your home. Countertops are used to prepare our favorite meals, meaning that they can get messy as time goes on. As such, you’ll want to know how to keep them clean, and that doesn’t just mean knowing the right cleaning methods, but also what cleaning methods to avoid. Here are cleaning methods you’ll want to avoid using on your kitchen countertop.

Using Cleaning Materials That are Too Harsh or Acidic

Some people might believe that all-purpose cleaners can be used on any surface. This is not the case, however, as some countertop surfaces could be damaged by those types of cleaners. If the cleaner you use is too strong, it can leave your kitchen countertop with a faded surface.

For this reason, we recommend using pH-neutral cleaners when cleaning your kitchen countertop. Mix these cleaners with mild dish soap and warm water, then apply your solution to the surface with the help of a microfiber cloth.

Cleaning With Abrasive Cleaning Products

Some cleaning products might be too abrasive for your kitchen countertop. If you’re using abrasive cleaning products, the surface of your countertop could get scratched, negatively affecting its appearance.

That’s why we recommend using microfiber towels or soft cloths when getting cleaning done for your kitchen countertop. If there are stubborn spots of dirt on the surface, soak the spots with warm and soapy water for a few minutes. After that, remove the spots with the help of a plastic scraper. Don’t use metal, as this material can scratch your countertop.

Wipe Residue Away After Cleaning is Done

After you’ve cleaned your kitchen countertop, there will likely be some leftover residue from the cleaning products you used. You want to remove this residue because it will attract dirt back to your countertop’s surface.

This is a common issue when you use too much cleaner, so try to use a small amount of cleaner to avoid having cleaning residue on your countertop. If there is any residue, wipe it away by using a soft damp cloth. After that, to remove anything else, wipe down the surface with a dry microfiber cloth.
