A Guide to Kitchen Layouts

Learn about the various kitchen layouts and designs.

As part of our fabrication work, we have the opportunity to be a part of countless kitchen remodels. When remodeling your kitchen, it’s important to pay special attention to your kitchen layout. Here are some of our best simple kitchen design tips to make your kitchen layout perfect for your family!

One-Wall or Pullman Kitchens

The one-wall kitchen layout is very common in small apartments because it is small and compact. All of the cabinets and appliances will be placed on one wall. Many of these kitchen designs also use an island so that it’s an eating and drinking space.

Galley kitchens are also one-wall kitchens that can be found in basements, apartments, or smaller homes. A galley kitchen has two walls that are opposite toeach other, but more often than not they are simply a full wall facing a countertop or island. Galleys are a good way to maximize a small amount of space.

L-Shaped Kitchens

L-shaped kitchens are great for homes that don’t have a ton of space to work with, and that want to maximize small corner spaces. This kitchen layout works well with a small or medium kitchen. An L-shaped kitchen has two countertops or walls that form an L shape. You don’t need to worry about kitchen traffic as much, since people will be able to move from one side to another easily. Many people love L-shaped kitchens since they can use part of it for dining and the rest of it for cooking and prepping.

Horseshoe Kitchen

A U-shaped kitchen has three distinct walls that feature cabinets, countertops, and kitchen appliances. Sometimes, an island will serve as the third wall. This kitchen layout has become more popular over time thanks to open floor plans. It allows people to easily get in and out of the kitchen and move around easily. If you have a big family or many hands in the kitchen at once, a horseshoe kitchen layout might be perfect for you.
